Donations vs Tithing

Every church depends on donations for operational costs – rent, electricity, water etc. Some churches refer to it as “giving”, others like The Mormon Church refer to it as tithing. Most Mormons give 10% of their income each month to the church, they are required to attend a “Tithing Settlement” at the end of each year to ensure they’ve paid each month. See the Mormon section for more details.

The Church of Scientology refers to this as donations. The church is well known for it’s high pressured sales tactics and group fundraising antics. But why does it cost a fortune to attain spiritual freedom? Listen to what a long time staff member Hy Levy has to say about his job as fundraiser for The Church of Scientology
